Fire Station 87, Northridge

This station's organization includes two large apparatus bays which flank a two-story central space comprised of offices, daybreak room, training room, kitchen and dining room on the ground floor and dormitories and locker rooms on the second floor. The generous gable roof encloses the majority of the functions, and a tower at the entry announces this public facility to the neighborhood. A paved concrete station yard area at the back of the site will be used for training, equipment maintenance, truck maneuvering, and parking.

Large operable windows and clerestories allow ample natural light to filter into the building and are one of several sustainable features that contribute to the project meeting a LEED certified level.
