The design of the Detroit Apartments draws upon the early modernist architectural heritage established in Los Angeles in the 1920's. The two buildings are located across the street from one another in West Hollywood. The smaller building contains 10 one bedroom apartments for low income seniors and features a trellised roof garden. The larger is a mix of 10 one, two and three bedroom apartments, arranged around a large interior courtyard. All units have outdoor patios and both buildings are strongly connected to the street, with wide steps
spilling out from the entry doors, creating small plazas.
